Why are Veterinary Practices Slow in January and February?

Animal Hospitals Tend to Slow Down after the New Year

Have any of you other veterinarians out there wondered why this is the case?

I have a few theories:

  1. Clients spent all of their money over the holidays
  2. Kids are back in school
  3. No one wants to tow the dog around when the weather is cold, wet, and rainy
  4. Puppies and kittens are frequently born in late spring bringing them into the clinic in the summer for wellness care/vaccinations.
Anyone else out there have ideas as to why this is the case?  Is this phenomenon limited to Dallas?
